Net Zero Nuclear Pavilion Opening
One year ago, at COP29, 25 countries signed a pledge setting a goal of a tripling of nuclear energy by 2050. One year on, what is the status of nuclear energy now, and what needs to be done?
12 November 2024 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM Baku, Azerbaijan

Nuclear energy generates 9% of the world’s electricity, and more than a quarter of the world’s clean electricity. It plays a key role in providing a firm, reliable, dispatchable supply. With global electricity demand expected to more than double, and the need to decarbonize the energy system, a tripling of nuclear capacity will be needed for even a modest increase in nuclear’s share of the generation mix.

This session will examine the current contribution of nuclear to energy supplies, review progress made since the signing of the Tripling Declaration and the Net Zero Nuclear Industrial Pledge, and examine what needs to be done to progress to the tripling goal and beyond.
