FOLLOWING ON FROM MULTI-NATION PLEDGE FOR NUCLEAR, POLAND REACHES DECISION IN PRINCIPLE FOR 24 NEW NUCLEAR REACTORS - ANNOUNCED AT NET ZERO NUCLEAR SUMMIT, DUBAI UAE
Dubai, UAE—Today, a decision in principle by the Government of Poland was announced for the construction of 24 new small modular reactor units across six sites in Poland, part of the country’s recent embrace of nuclear power as a key component of meeting energy demands and achieving climate goals. The announcement by senior executives of Orlen Synthos green Energy (OSGE) came during today’s session of the Net Zero Nuclear Summit, taking place while COP28 is underway in Dubai.
“According to momentum created by triple nuclear and Net Zero Nuclear, the Polish government decided to issue a decision in principle and approved six locations together for 24 state-of-the-art GE Hitachi BWRX-300 units in Poland,” said Rafał Kasprów, CEO of OSGE. “It’s really a new beginning—a new era—for Poland.”
Jacek J. Drózd, Vice President of the Management Board of OSGE, said “I’m happy to say that we are going, already, to action. Many speakers called for action—not for words. We are going to action.”
Last week, Poland joined more than 20 other governments in endorsing a declaration committing to tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050.
At the declaration ceremony on Saturday, Polish President Andrzej Duda said: “Nuclear power is a future. A future of clean, safe, and stable energy. A future of just energy transition. Without nuclear energy, it will not be possible to implement ambitious climate plans we all want to follow to protect the planet.”
Net Zero Nuclear, the groundbreaking initiative launched earlier this year, aims to triple global nuclear capacity by 2050 and elevate nuclear energy as a clean, reliable resource delivering power around the world 24/7. The Net Zero Nuclear Summit continues tomorrow. Click here or email media@netzeronuclear.org for more information.
