At the Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference, the President of the Pacific Nuclear Council, Dr Corey McDaniel, and Vice-President, Dr. Jaejoo Ha, signed the Industry Pledge on behalf of the PNC, showing strong support for the research, development and industry projects in the region to work towards our shared vision for nuclear capacity to at least triple in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The Net-Zero Nuclear initiative, launched at COP28, continues to gain momentum throughout the industry, spearheaded by the World Nuclear Association.

"We are delighted to welcome the Pacific Nuclear Council to the growing coalition of 130+ companies that have signed the Net Zero Nuclear Industry Pledge. By joining this commitment, the Pacific Nuclear Council strengthens the global effort to achieve our shared ambition of at least tripling nuclear capacity by 2050, contributing significantly to a sustainable and low-carbon future.

I had the pleasure of attending the Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference which was organised by the Pacific Nuclear Council and was focused on Nuclear Enabling a Net Zero World. The panel I chaired, together with the wider event itinerary actively explored key strategies and collaborative initiatives to ensure nuclear energy’s position as a pivotal enabler of the clean energy transition and as a solution for global decarbonization. It is with discussions like these, together with the collective dedication of industry and government through the Industry Pledge, that we can move towards our ambition.

We look forward to the continued collaboration with the Pacific Nuclear Council and all signatories of the Net Zero Nuclear Industry Pledge as we work together to create a brighter, more sustainable future." said Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of World Nuclear Association.

Dr Corey McDaniel from The Pacific Nuclear Council stated his support for rapid expansion of the global nuclear fleet and the acceleration of research and development into emerging nuclear technologies in the Pacific Basin in order for the nuclear industry to deliver clean, reliable energy to meet increasing demand.

"The Pacific Nuclear Council has convened more than a dozen nuclear societies since 1976 to address the role of nuclear technology in the Pacific Rim, signing the Net Zero Nuclear pledge amplifies PNC’s support for expanding clean, safe, and affordable nuclear power in achieving a net zero future."

The Net Zero Nuclear Industry Pledge reflects the collective dedication of organizations worldwide to harness the power of nuclear energy as a critical component of the clean energy transition. With nuclear power recognized as a reliable and scalable solution for meeting global energy needs while addressing climate challenges, expanding its role is essential to achieving our net zero goals.
